The Fashion Informer was recently lucky enough to score an interview with the ever-elusive Martin Margiela (who answered all enquiries en masse, with other members of his atelier, as Maison Martin Margiela). The results were published in the current issue of Plastique magazine and there's a sneak peek, below.
Plastique, helmed by UK stylist extraordinaire Brylie Quinn Fowler, is on sale at better newsstands nationwide, or find it online at http://www.plastiquemagazine.com/.
I’m a huge fan of Maison Martin Margiela and have followed his collections avidly since the early 90’s. But I find it amazing that a designer of his stature is able to remain unphotographed and hidden for all these years and that not a single person within the industry is able to point him out in a crowd. It’s even odder when you consider his time at Hermès. I wonder if those at the Parisian house were sworn to secrecy (after all who signed the contract?).
For the last couple of years I’ve been wondering if Maison Martin Margiela isn’t an individual so much a collective intent on diverting the spotlight from the cult of the celebrity designer and focus on the clothes instead?

I love the idea of a secret collective pretending to be a single designer as an act of subversion. Maybe the Q&A has clues? But, I can't resize the photo large enough for the article to become legible!
