The Designer: Chris Benz
The Venue: The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, where the models stood on a long, very high platform in the center of the long, very crowded space.
The Crowd: Susan Sarandon, Debbie Harry, Johnny Weir, Greta Gerwig, Jessica Szohr, Brad Goreski, Becka Diamond, Sophia Lamar and the usual editors, buyers and fashion industry insiders.
The Collection: Inspired by the Southern Gothic elegance of Savannah, Georgia, Benz piled on the references—literally—in whimsical, colorful looks that ranged from moody floral print ruffled chiffon frocks and plaid peplumed jackets to artfully "moth eaten" coats, cheery color blocked skirts, cropped shearling capes, leather-trimmed tweed blazers, sheer sequin pants and a plaid tunic and matching pants topped by a pumpkin sweater and fuchsia leather blazer.
The Standout Piece(s): An autumnal print tiered chiffon gown, a black and white astrakhan coat, a floral bib front blouse worn with black sequin stripe trousers and a black-piped grey blazer. And—oh!—those slingback platforms. Made in collaboration with Alejandro Ingelmo, Benz's fall shoes are, in a word—make that three words—to die for.
