The Designer: Jen Kao
The Venue: The Studio at Lincoln Center.
The Crowd: Bill Cunningham, Harriet Mays Powell, Sara Rutson, Becka Diamond, Jan Arnold, Aurelia Cotton, stylist Doria Santlofer and Fashionetc.'s Amina Akhtar.
The Collection: Inspired by empowered women such as Queen Hatshepsut, Catherine the Great and by a poem Kao wrote last fall, the designer crafted a fanciful collection full of armor-like metallic leather breastplates, fringed bustier minis, strong-shouldered jackets, crocheted spiderweb tops, fishtail gowns with aquatic prints, luxe furs and boldly colorful dresses.
The Standout Piece(s): The Tributary printed blazer that opened the show, a monarch-print mink coat, and the Tributary embroidered Phoenix gown that appeared near the finale.
