The Designer: Rachel Roy
The Venue: The Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery at Lincoln Center, where two dozen models (give or take) stood in a very pretty row on raised pedestals along the back wall.
The Crowd: Joe Zee, Mary Alice Stephenson, Beverly Smith, Olivia Palermo, Brandon Holley, June Ambrose, Teri Agins, Amy Fine Collins, Aubrey O'Day, Drena De Niro, Anjhula Singh Bais, Fabiola Beracasa and Fern Mallis.
The Collection: In addition to eight-piece Trench Capsule Collection she does each season (which riffed on denim this time around), Roy unveiled a ready-to-wear collection based on "ethnic bohemia." This manifested itself by way of Peruvian-inspired striped tunics, boiled wool vests, wallpaper print dresses, loose suede shirting, layered gloves and tweed jackets, all worn with fabric woven braids, scrunched woolly socks and high heeled, peep-toe hiking booties. As a whole, it was incredibly chic and sophisticated while maintaining a multi-culti, "We Are the World" feel.
The Standout Piece(s): A navy melange basket weave poncho, a colorful striped intarsia knit sweater belted beneath a lamé striped dress, and a lotus print jacquard blouse and Peruvian tweed pleat skirt topped by a double breasted grey tweed jacket and black fur snood.
