The Designer: The Row
The Venue: A loft space above the Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea.
The Crowd: None. It was a private, by-appointment-only showroom visit (no models) in which designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen walked editors through the collection personally.
The Collection: Inspired by The Triplets of Belleville, Fantastic Mr. Fox and the work of artist Egon Schiele, the designers presented a fanciful, fur-heavy collection that was long on whimsy (a blue fox puffer, cashmere pajama tops with matching elastic waist pants, saffron yellow suiting, a cheetah print coat with the ease of a bathrobe) and melancholy (long black guipure lace skirts, a staid black toggle coat, a stately opera cape). Somehow, it all worked—and resulted in The Row's best collection to date.
The Standout Piece(s): A burgundy alligator shell with matching leather skirt, blazers with fish- or snakeskin elbow patches, a goes-with-everything fox fur vest, and pleated cropped trousers that are as chic as they are comfortable.
