The Designer: Vera Wang
The Venue: The Stage at Lincoln Center, which had been outfitted with a stately metal gate and plush grey carpeting for the occasion.
The Crowd: Anna Wintour, Amy Astley, Joe Zee, June Ambrose, Mary Alice Stephenson, Ken Downing, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff and figure skater Evan Lysacek.
The Collection: Inspired by effortlessly chic American women of the 1930s (think: Viscountess Thelma Furness, Lady Emerald Cunard and The Dutchess of Windsor), Wang spent a goodly portion of the show exploring pleated tops, dresses and gowns from every conceivable angle and layered them under covetable, exceptionally modern outerwear (scuba coats, parkas, jackets, boyfriend blazers and hooded vests), most of which boasted plush fox collars or linings, some of them removable.
The Standout Piece(s): See aforementioned outerwear. There wasn't a dud in the bunch.
