There are several certainties surrounding New York Fashion Week. To wit: You will see some really great shows. You will see some really bad shows. You will experience sensory overload. You will be sleep deprived. You will run into friends and colleagues you haven't seen since the last round of shows. You will lose a few pounds.
And, by week's end, you will have amassed a whole bunch of swag (aka, Stuff We All Get). Some of which will be cool or useful or make a great gift for your sister/mother/brother/niece/BFF. And some of which will make you scratch your head in wonderment (as in, "I wonder why the hell they put this in the goodie bag?").
During prior Fashion Weeks, I've gotten everything from pillows and keychains and wine openers and pens and notebooks to thong underwear, scarves, makeup, hair care, socks, stockings, books, jewelry, jeans, manicures and handbags (and that's just the stuff I can remember off the top of my head).
Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week was no exception on the swag front and resulted, as always, in a rather motley accumulation of stuff. Such as: a lavender sachet and reusable silk drawstring pouches; a stuffed red heart pin; a Pamela Love t-shirt; a Costello Tagliapietra striped silk satchel; shampoo and conditioner from Sebastian and Aveda; Chanel lipstick; Benefit's Brow Zings; OPI, Butter and Zoya nail polish; skincare from L'Occitane, EO, Elemi and Korres; Rembrandt toothpaste and a zebra print Reach toothbrush; a Dylan's Candy Bar lollipop; a Diet Coke flag; Crew men's hair powder; a rhinestone flag pin; and six Vena Cava-branded Proper Attire condoms (tagline: "Proper Attire: Required for Entry").
As always, most of this will be re-gifted to my friends and siblings (it's nice to share the spoils), while a few select items will remain at TFI headquarters. All I know is, I literally have not bought shampoo or conditioner since I started covering the shows way back when. And that, my friends, is truly a gift that keeps on giving.
