What inspired you for spring 2012?
This season was inspired by the Forties movies we watched in our hotel room while on a recent trip to Vietnam together.
How does this inspiration play out in terms of colors, materials and shapes?
The color palette resembles a lot of what we saw in Vietnam—lots of red orange, tropical greens, navy and utilitarian earth tones. The silhouette is more Forties with strong shoulders, knee lengths, tailored jackets and high waists. We were interested in doing more silk dresses with large leaf prints, draped details and traditional Vietnamese hand embroidered details.
What music did you listen to while designing this collection?
We're noticing that we're looking back to some of the things we were doing when we first started Vena Cava eight years ago: Brian Eno, The Boredoms, Ghost, Kate Bush, Nirvana, Heart.
What other show(s) are you looking forward to seeing this season?
Patrik Ervell, Dries, Sonia Rykiel, Prada, Bodkin, Valentino.
Do you have any day-of-show rituals you can share with us?
We're not having a show this season, so our microwave burrito shotgunning contest is going to have to live on in memory...
How do you relax/recharge after New York Fashion Week?
We usually go and get amazing hot stone massages at the Soho Sanctuary. That place is so, so soothing.
Where will your show be held this season?
We're not having a show this season, but rather a dinner at MPD restaurant to eat great food, read our new 'zine and hang with friends and muses of ours who will be wearing pieces from the new SS12 collection.
Vena Cava designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai will be hosting private appointments for press and buyers.
